Jiaogulan, (Gynostemma pentaphyllum), (Also called the Immortality plant), contains over 100 different saponins, compounds that boost energy naturally. Jiaogulan is a tonic herb that is less well-known than Ginseng which only contains 28. Saponins contained in this herb affect the different body systems by increasing the body’s ability to deal with and recover from stress.
Adaptogens improve the overall function and effectiveness of all body systems. They work to help the body normalize its functions and work in a healthy way.
Read my personal story now on how Jiaogulan helped to restore my health and energy. I had primarily used western herbs for the past 37 years because this was my training and background as a master herbalist.
Taking herbs has kept me out of the hospital and on track. I have never been in the hospital other than during the birth of my kids. I have some genetic health issues that I have to work with on a daily basis. My regimen of Western herbs that I have always taken had served me well until that point. At 67, they did not seem to work as they always had, so I had to research and try a new program.
I turned to research. What was I missing? Where was the answer? That led me to Jiaogulan first. I began drinking the tea daily, several times a day. I noticed a big difference in the way I felt and my energy within a month.
That led to more research about adaptogen herbs and Ayurvedic medicine. I took it to educate myself on adaptogen and Ayurvedic herbs so I could eventually teach classes. They are amazing in their ability to turn your health around in a holistic way. Adaptogen herbs are the reason I am writing again and excited.
Jiaogulan is one of the few herbs you can easily grow yourself. You don’t have to destroy the root and plant to use it. You don’t need to grow it for years as ginseng before it is ready for harvest. It is also less expensive than ginseng and some other herbs. It may be less well-known but certainly should be right up in the top 10 adaptogen herbs for health. It is easy to use which helps you with your busy work schedule.

Jiaogulan is a climbing vine in the family of our beloved cucumbers that grow in China and Thailand. It is called Jiaogulan, the immortality vine, “southern ginseng” and its Latin name is Gynostemma. It is one of 19 plants in this species.
It is not as well-known as ginseng. I hope to be one of the people who get the word out about this amazing plant you can grow yourself in your garden. It is one of the Adaptogen Herbs that help your overall health.
How can Jiaogulan, the Immortality plant improves your health? What is in it?
Read my article giving you directions on how to use Jiaogulan in teas. You can also take it as capsules or add the dried powder to smoothies or green drinks. More about its remarkable benefits!
Its amazing benefits were discovered by Dr. Jialiu Liu, M.D. who was sent by the Chinese government to research this herb as a natural sugar substitute. They found that the people who ate this herb on a regular basis had exceptional health and longevity. He brought samples of the herb back to the research lab and the result was exciting. This was in the 1960s and he published many research projects that showed its benefits for health. He is considered the father of Gynostemma research and knowledge.
Jiaogulan contains over 100 different saponins and compounds. Consider Ginseng, as well-known as it is, only contains 28. Saponins contained in this herb affect the different body systems by increasing the body’s ability to deal with and recover from stress. Adaptogens improve the overall function and effectiveness of all the different body systems. They work to help the body normalize its functions and work in a healthy way.
Gynostemma works on the central and peripheral nervous system through the antioxidants it contains. It has the ability to regulate your production of nitric oxide which is involved in hundreds of processes in the body including communication between nerve cells in the brain and proper functioning of the important neurotransmitters in your brain. Neurotransmitters, out of balance, will cause you to be angry or depressed clinically. Nitric Oxide is important for memory, learning, and recall. Nitrate oxide protects your nerve cells from damage from free radical damage and cell death.
It works on your energy systems, your endocrine systems, and the whole body.
Gynostemma helps support all the brain functions: memory, concentration, learning new subjects, recall, recovery from traumatic brain injury, damage from alcohol, and supports recovery from strokes. It is really effective in the elderly as well. It helps stabilize your energy with no caffeine. It works to normalize the different body systems. Again, it contains no stimulants or caffeine.
You can take it in tea or in capsules. I prefer tea unless I am on the run. I use both in my hectic life. Here at Greatly Blessed Medicinal Herbs Nursery, I grow the plant myself. I still buy the tea and caps since it is hard to grow enough here in the States other than CA and Florida to use year-round. Next year I will be selling the plants and tea products (not from my own plants).
Taking Jiogulan can help with renewed energy, stamina, proper heart functioning, and overall health. I can give my own testimonial on Jiaogulan. This was my first step into the health adventure of Adaptogen herbs and recovery of my own health.
